Why Use Cloth Nappies?
Why Use Cloth Nappies?
It's advised that we change our little ones bums 10 -12 times a day from birth slowing to 6-8 in the following months.... But what is the cost of this for both the environment and our pockets?
A pack of branded disposables will cost you approx £6.00 in the supermarket for a 34 pack that will last less than a week.
If you average 8 nappy changes a day that's 56 nappies a week, costing 17.5p each nappy. That's approx £9.80 a week on nappies!
In a month that's approx £40, in a year £480 just on nappies!
Now times that by the nappy wearing career of a child say 3 years? That's £1440! For just one baby! On disposables??
That's enough for 3 family holidays in the UK and you will of literally put that all in a big hole in the ground!
Compare this to reusable's... A birth to potty pack depending on your choice of nappy could cost you as little as £140. Include washing costs (detergent, electric, water, wear and tear of your washing machine) of around £140 for the whole nappy wearing years and its cost you £280 total. A saving of nearly £1100!
Obviously this relies on you not getting addicted to cloth and having to have more and more gorgeous fluff! But.....
Can you afford not to try?
Environmentally that's nearly 3000 disposable nappies from one baby going in to landfill in just one year! a disposable can take up to 500 years to completely decompose producing methane and toxic chemicals in to our atmosphere. Not to mention the amount of trees that are chopped down to make them in the first place!
Many local councils are trying to address the issue of huge amounts of nappies going to landfill and are taking part in incentive schemes to encourage cloth use. Contact your local council to see what they offer as an incentive. You may be surprised!!
This is the age of the re-usable nappy.... with the credit crunch putting more and more pressure on the pocket let BabyBots help you. We can all help to both preserve the environment for our children and save some much needed cash in the mean time!
The world of cloth nappies has changed drastically from the days of terry squares, wet soak, boil washes and big nappy pins that a lot of us were brought up in.
The modern re-usable is easy to care for, easy to wash, easy to use, very absorbent and to top it all off now available in a huge choice of brands, styles and even funky colours that you'll just have to show off!
