Nappy Types

This nappy type is the basic modern nappy type, It looks like a disposable in shape and is fastened with either Aplix (Velcro) Poppers or a nappy nippa which is a modern nappy pin.

These nappies can be made from a number of materials and contain a number of layers to increase absorbancy.

Boosters are sometimes sewn in although more can be added for heavy wetters, long journeys or night times.

Liners are usually used with these nappies to keep baby's bottom dry and to aid easy disposal of solids. These can be flushable or washable fleece.

These nappies require a waterproof wrap it is these two parts that make up the 'two part nappy system'

  • Pocket nappies

These nappies are also the same shape as a disposable and a shaped nappy. They have an opening at the back which makes a 'pocket' between the inner and outer layers of the nappy. This allows the nappy to be stuffed with absorbent inners and boosters to suit.

The Inner layer is usually made of fleece or suedecloth to keep babys bottom dry and the outer layer is a water proof material usually PUL. These can also be fastened by aplix or poppers.

Pocket nappies are available in one size and sized options most parents find these handy for quick nappy changes on wriggly babies and toddlers as is effectively no more fiddly than a disposable.

The main advantage of this nappy type is its quick drying time as the inners are removed for washing, also their very slim fit, mainly due to the adjustable levels of inserts.

  • All in Ones

This nappy type is basically as the title suggests an 'All in One' the nappy goes on as it is and is made up of the absorbent part covered by a waterproof layer these are usually all sewn together but can normally be poppered in and out for a quicker drying time. These are also fastened by aplix or poppers.

  • Flat nappies (Terry/Muslin/ Bamboo squares)

These are the traditional type of nappy, a simple square of material that can be folded in to shape. There are a variety of folds, sizes and can be made of a variety of materials.

Muslin squares are often used for newborns as they are not overly bulky. Muslins can be used as burp cloths when not used as nappies.

These all require a waterproof wrap. A Nappy Nippa can be used to fasten the nappy in place instead of a nappy pin.

We do not currently stock terry, muslin or bamboo squares but have got a wholesaler who will supply them in a variety of sizes.
