Nappies By Age - Six Months to Potty

Here at BabyBots I'm asked lots of times a week about which nappies would I suggest for various ages of baby depending on when people feel ready to start out with cloth and more so at this age group as little ones start to out grow their size one, two part nappy systems that have used from birth.

So to help give you a better idea we have developed these shop by age sections of the site.

You can also check out our other age pages:-

Three Months to Potty

Remember these are just our guide as to what we know will fit and work from these certain stages. Each baby grows at a different rate and so may need different sizes etc depending on weight. We are happy to help you if you are stuck or confused by all the choices just drop us an email.

Nappies for six months upwards....

This stage usually coincides with numerous different factors:-

A baby who has been cloth wearing for a while growing out of their two part nappy systems ( somewhere between 6- 9 months) that have been super duper reliable from an early age . Or this is the stage that Mum and Dad are ready to take the plunge .

This age group tends to encounter some big developmental milestones, Crawling, walking and weaning will play a big part in the coming months leading to very exciting times.

This may mean your nappy changing preferances will change. For example if you have been using a two party system up to now, you now might like some thing that allows for a quicker nappy change as junior is now up and active and more often than not trying to escape as you try to change them! So a pocket or an All in one system will now come in to its own.

Also with weaning you will find many changes in poo! The main one being as their liquid diet changes to solids, poo will eventually start to become more solid and easier to contain.

Tip - You might find flushable liners handy during the weaning process to allow you to gather up all the day befores new tastes!

Another factor to consider is working mums may be returning to work now, so you might like to think of a simple system for the childminder/ nursery/ Grandparents or Daddy to change.

So taking all that info in to account with this age group to be honest you now have free range to try any type of nappy you like the look of! Yep thats right the Skys the limit and all the one size nappies will now fit, its now up to you which type suits you and your baby the best.

As always if baby is being breast fed I'd still be mindfull of looking for good leg gussets for containment, other than that all the nappies we stock wiil now fit its up to you to decide which brand you like best !

Night Nappies....

Another question im asked alot is about night nappies. For lots of babies this will have only just caused a problem, for others this may not cause a problem for a few more months and your day time nappies may work just as well at night as during the day.

But for those who do have a problem.....

No body likes changing a wet bed in the middle of the night, especially if you are co-sleeping with your baby!

Lots of problems come from day pocket nappies for example being used as night time nappies, whilst baby is young this is fine and they will usually work well but as they grow, and wee more they tend to need extra boosting. This at some point will get to the stage where the nappy is booster so much that the nappy gapes at the legs and will leak from the legs.

The secret to a good night nappy is easy... a good old nappy and a wrap combination. I've used lots of different combinations of nappy and wraps and find that with a good wrap, any shaped nappy will work overnight with a bit of extra boosting to help them go that extra time. I've always used a Little Lamb nappy, with a Nature Babies one size wrap on our son with fantastic results. Night nappies may be quite big compared to day nappies, but remember they are only sleeping in them and it wont restrict their movement.

There are many different brands of specific night nappies that you can buy if budget allows - We do stock some night nappies in our Babybots Boutique
