Nappies By Age - Newborn Nappies
Here at BabyBots I'm asked lots of times a week about which nappies I would suggest for use on a newborn and also at various other ages depending on when people feel ready to start out with cloth. So to help give you a better idea, we have developed these shop by age sections of the site.

Remember these are just our guide as to what we know will fit and work from these certain stages. Each baby grows at a different rate and so may need different sizes etc depending on weight. We are happy to help you if you are stuck or confused by all the choices just drop us an email.
Newborn Nappies
Newborn nappies come at quite a scary time, especially for first time Mums and Dads who are just getting used to their new baby, lack of sleep, lots of visitors and possibly well meaning relatives with their parenting views! So regardless of if you plan to use cloth from day one or day ten you need it to be hassle free and easy. The last thing you want is to have made the wrong choice of nappy that wont fit for another 3 months and will leak every time you try them as the fit isnt great.
Ok lets talk poo! Regardless of what nappy you choose to use as parents you will at some point find yourself faced with poo. Newborns are great at poo and need changing roughly 2 hourly in those early weeks. They are also very good at explosions especially if they are breast fed.
So to sum up qualities to look for in a newborn nappy :-
The nappy is changed so frequently that in the very early days it needent be hugely absorbent or super thick, this will just add bulk to the nappy so early on.
You want something that will be good at containment of runny and explosive poo- Look for a two part system with leg gussets.
A nappy that will fit instead of drowning baby.( Most nappies that claim to be birth to potty will be huge on a newborn)

Two Part Systems....
These are all size one, two part nappy systems. This is a nappy and waterproof wrap combination.
Some are slimmer than others depending on brand and material you choose.
The wraps shown below all have leg gussets so will be fantastic at contaiment.
Size one nappies will fit until roughly 15- 20 lb which will be around 6-8 months depending on the brand and child in question. For suggestions for after this age please refer to the six months plus page.
Another option of the early days is to use muslin squares folded in a terry fold, fastened with a nappy nippa and covered with one of the wraps below. This is a very cost effective option for early cloth nappying.

Grow with baby options.....
Lots of people prefer to have a nappy option that will fit baby from birth right up until potty training. Lots of brands claim to fit from birth right through. Some really dont fit until about 14lb properly.
However there are a few options that will fit from early on that also have that all important leg gusset for breast fed babies.
